If you are looking for a single comprehensive reference on the Grumman Wildcat in ALL of its forms - from the conceptual biplane precursor Grumman XF4F-1 to the General Motors Eastern Aircraft Division FM-2 - then this is THAT BOOK.I am a shameless fan of the Grumman Wildcat. Currently on my shelf are least a dozen reference publications from 1958 to the present dedicated to this classic World War II Navy fighter, along with just as many other books detailing the operational history of the machine and the biographies of the people who made it possible for it to excel in combat. All of that to say this one volume does an impressive job covering all the basics, while adding a lot of brand new material, much of it in color:- A dozen new drawings by Lloyd S. Jones spell out the small changes the distinguish one Wildcat or Martlet from the next.- A concise 11-page history by Bert Kinzey outlines some of the highlights in the Wildcat's six-year history as a front line combat aircraft through the end of WWII.- New color photos by Bert Kinzey and others show cockpit details along with many other hardware close ups.- Artist Rock Roszak has created 21 new colors and markings profiles to provide references for modelers as well great eye candy for all readers. He also created five stand-alone illustrations to show the engine cowling variations in the U.S. Navy Wildcats up through the F4F-4.- A modelers' section lists and describes the old classic kits, and reviews everything currently in production.This one book has a little for everyone with some interest in the Grumman Wildcat.If you have no references on the Grumman Wildcat, this probably should be your first purchase.If you already have a few, this will make a nice addition to your library.I have both the print version and the Kindle edition and enjoy them both.My copy was printed on November 11, 2018 and was delivered quickly by Amazon.Highly Recommended.
